Eeuwenoude Schiedamse molen De Walvisch uitgebrand Dag van toen
MOLEN 'DEWALVISCH' 25 JAAR NA DE BRAND In 2021 was het precies 25 jaar geleden, dat molen De Walvisch, de huidige museummolen, getroffen werd door een grote brand. Op 14 februari 1996 brandde deze eeuwenoude stellingmolen, die toen nog een andere functie had namelijk volledig af. Vele Schiedammers kunnen zich dat nog herinneren.

Het vervangen van de roeden van De Vrijheid en De Palmboom (in 2021 en '22) was aanleiding om ook de roeden van andere Schiedamse molens te controleren. Men heeft besloten, van De Walvisch beide roeden te vervangen. Tot dat zover is, stond de molen stil. Eind november 2022 begon men met het kaalzetten van de oude roeden.

The Molen De Walvisch is one of the largest windmills in the world ad is open to visitors. During our visit, we were able to climb the four levels (the first two are stairways and the last two are ladders) to the top of the windmill and walk onto the deck and watch the windmill blades rotate. The experience was very worthwhile.
